Hardwar, May 28, 2015: Baba Ramdev has landed in a fresh controversy after a person lost his life and half a dozen others were injured in a violent clash at his Hardwar food park on Wednesday.

Later, police arrested the yoga guru’s brother Rambharat and two other Ramdev supporters in connection with the incident.

The rift between a local truck union and Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth food park management began in October last year. It has claimed the life of truck union president Daljeet, and left six others injured.

The local truck union was opposing Patanjali Yogpeeth’s decision to hire vehicles from outside the state for ferrying products made by its pharmacy and food procession units to different parts of India.

The truck union has been agitated ever since the Yogpeeth started its independent transport unit in October last year and completely sidelined local operators.

The truck union members had begun gathering at Padartha near Hardwar, where the food park is located, from Tuesday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, at about 11am on Wednesday the food park staff and the truckers began pelting stones at each other.

On Wednesday, the agitating local operators also stopped trucks ferrying goods at the food park gate.

It resulted in a bloody battle with the Patanjali Yogpeeth’s security staff and supporters of Baba Ramdev taking on the truck union members.

Police insiders claimed that Daljeet died of fatal injuries after being hit by stones.

Later, the truck union members, employees of the food park, and Ramdev’s supporters vandalised many vehicles that were parked in and around the food park.

Local villagers allege that Rambharat had provoked the truck union members to resort to violence, which aggravated the situation.

Following the incident, police rushed to the site and carried out a search operation.

Sources claimed that revolvers and other arms were recovered in the raid.

Hardwar’s Senior Superintendent of Police Sweety Agarwal said: “We have arrested Rambharat, brother of Baba Ramdev, and two other staff of the food park. We have also sent the body of the killed person for post-mortem examination. The autopsy report will present a clear picture of the cause of death.”

As the case is related to high-profile yoga guru Baba Ramdev, the local police more or less remained tight-lipped.

Until the evening, the cops were saying that the investigation into the incident was still going on, and therefore they are not in a position to provide further details.
