Karnataka: Pvt engg colleges to retain existing fee

Bangalore, April 24, 2014, DHNS: Much to the relief of thousands of engineering aspirants, the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) on Thursday acceded to the state government’s request to continue with the existing fee structure and seat matrix for engineering courses during 2014-15.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, M K Panduranga Setty, secretary, KUPECA said: “At KUPECA meeting we agreed to cooperate with the government and retain the fee structure and seat sharing matrix of last year to benefit students. The government has promised to implement provisions of the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006, next year.”
     
A Karnataka Examination Authority official said as many as 96,379 engineering seats are available for 2014-15 academic year. Out of this, the government’s share is 45 per cent, the share of private colleges will be 55 per cent, including that of Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K).

The fees will be Rs 18,090 in government and government-aided institutions and Rs 38,090 and Rs 41,590 in private unaided and minority colleges respectively, according to the KEA official.
