Bengaluru, July 07, 2015, dhns: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Restructuring Committee will submit its final report on the division of the Palike to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on July 11.

BBMPAccording to sources, the committee headed by former chief secretary B S Patil has recommended the division of the civic body into five corporations and the need for setting up a three-tier administrative system. It has also suggested a ward-level administrative setup at the lower level, multiple corporations (five corporations) in the middle and the Greater Bengaluru administrative setup at the top.

It favoured suspension of the standing committees if they caused losses to the Palike.
Committee sources said the government was in a dilemma whether to form five corporations or stick to three as decided by the State Cabinet. Hence, in the KMC amendment Bill, an option has been given to the government to abolish the BBMP or form as many corporations as it feels fit.

About 102 types of information pertaining to the various departments, including the BBMP, BDA, Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, Bescom and the police department, have been brought under one Geographical Information System platform, and through this, each ward’s status has been analysed scientifically. The sources said the report had been prepared after taking in the views of the public of all the eight zones and also after considering the suggestions made by Azim Premji University, Bangalore Political Action Committee, the Indian Institute of Science and civic organisations.

According to sources, June 30 was the last date for submitting the final report. “The English draft of the report is ready and by July 10, the printing will be completed. The next day, it will be submitted to the chief minister,” they said.
