Saharanpur clashes: BJP cries conspiracy, blames Mulayam Singh

Mangalore Today News Network

Saharanpur, July 28, 2014:  BJP accused the Akhilesh Yadav government for Saharanpur violence and said it appeared clashes were pre-planned.

Union Minister Kalraj Mishra had asked political parties not to politicise the issue.

"The manner in which members of a particular community attacked those, who were protesting against forced grabbing of land, is indicative of a serious conspiracy," he said.

"The Saharanpur incident is unfortunate. It seemed it was a pre-planned attack," Kalraj told a news channel.

The micro, small and medium enterprises minister said the so-called dispute could not be termed as land dispute.

"There is a need to pay special attention to this issue. The government, without any discrimination, must act against those who are guilty," he said.

The minister asked parties to desist from politicising the issue. "Whether it is Congress or SP, they should not politicise the issue. The government must act against those indulging in such activities."

Kalraj alleged divisive forces were becoming active in the country.

Three persons were killed and 19 others, including policemen, injured in the clashes on Saturday as mobs indulged in arson after which curfew was clamped and shoot-at-sight order issued.

The minister said the manner in which people were mobilised in Saharanpur showed they were being controlled from some place or the other.

"The state government must check and control these forces," he said.

The Union minister claimed even the government had stated in the UP Assembly that around 34 districts in the state were affected by ISI.

"When it was asked in the Vidhan Sabha at that time, the government told that around 34 districts are affected by ISI. Even after Muzaffarnagar riots, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said something similar to it quoting intelligence inputs," Kalraj said.

"Thus all I want to say is that the government must take this very seriously. These forces are creating disturbances," he said.

Akhilesh government responsible for riots: Shahnawaz
Holding Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav responsible for Saharanpur riots, BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said their lust for power and poor law and order situation were reasons behind the riots.

"Akhilesh Yadav’s government deliberately indulges in disturbing communal harmony in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family are dividing the state at a time when the law and order situation is in very bad shape there," Hussain, BJP national spokesperson, told media persons at the Bihar BJP headquarters in Patna.

"Akhilesh-led government has lost its moral right to continue in UP after the defeat in Lok Sabha elections. It has lost the mandate and is facing public anger, but wants to remain in power by any means," he said.

Referring to the riots in Saharanpur, he said everybody has the right to worship, but nobody has the right to stop anybody from worshipping according to his religion or views.

He further added that such incidents should not be tolerated and strict action should be taken by the state government.

Hussain said, "BJP wants communal harmony in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country, but it finally depends on the state government whether to improve or worsen the situation.

"Our government at the Centre is ready to provide all possible help to the UP government in tackling communal tension and ushering in peace and communal harmony," he said.
