The victim, a student of Fatima Devi English High School, was attacked as he was on his way to the toilet next to his classroom on the ground floor around 9.40am. The motive goes back to last week it is stated, there was a fight. Police have learned it was over a girl.  "My friends and another group of boys were fighting after school hours,  when I intervened and asked them to stop. The other group threatened me to stay out of this or get beaten up. However, I did not take it seriously," said the injured boy.

On July 21, the accused confronted him from among the group that had threatened him. "He called out to me and began to argue. He held a blade close to my eyes. I tried to protect myself and had a scuffle with him. He suddenly slashed my neck with the blade," said the victim, lying in a hospital bed.

"The cut ran quite deep. Around 25-30 stitches have been administered in three layers. The boy had a narrow escape; if the cut had been a bit deeper it would have been dangerous. He is expected to be discharged in a couple of days," said Dr Anil Suchak who treated the victim.

School teachers rushed the boy to the nearby hospital. "Since it was recess time, a lot of students were around. When the children saw him bleeding, they brought him to the staff room. We rushed to the hospital, which informed the police about the incident," said a teacher from the school.

The accused has also allegedly misbehaved with a teacher in the past. "Time and again the school has sent remarks to notify parents about his behaviour. However, there has never been any response from their end," said the teacher.

School principal, Kenneth Marchon remained unavailable for comment despite several attempts. Investigations are progressing.
