Mangaluru, Aug 3, 2015: Despite his intense pain Sunder Malekudiya (48) manages to put up a smile while lying on the hospital bed. He is definitely distraught as a deadly attack by his landlord at Kataje near Neriya of Belthangady on July 26 has left one of his hands mutilated while damaging four fingers of another hand. The attacker had used a weed clearing machine for the dastardly act.
Sunder, a farm labourer hopes he would in the days to come manage to eat food by himself by using a spoon. Doctors have bandaged both his hands and his left elbow has been operated upon.
He regrets being dependent on others for all his needs. He has even lost his thumb and forefinger of his right hand and adds doctors are hopeful of reviving his hands. Sunder says he was attacked by Gopala Gowda (60) of the same village for preventing the latter from clearing wood in his hand. While Gopal Gowda is absconding, police have managed to arrest his wife Pushpalatha.
Ironically, Sunder was attacked just a few days after he had undergone surgery at a private hospital. The family somehow had managed to bear the surgery cost with the help of contributions from neighbours and well wishers.
Once in 1998 Gopal Gowda’s family members had attacked Sunder’s wife Revathi leaving the middle and ring fingers of her left hand disfigured. Gowda is also facing the allegation of attacking many in his village.
Sunder Malekudiya’s eldest son Poornesh who has completed II PUC last year is now forced to work as a farm labourer to sustain his family comprising his parents and three younger sisters.

How sad ? The people are being treated like salves and no action on the landlord from such a long time. Where ever he is hiding , the police has to catch this criminal and put him behind bars. |
