ANF guns down Jokatte cattle transporter mistaking him for Naxal near Shringeri

Mangalore, Apr 19, 2014:  A person who was travelling in a cattle transportation vehicle was reportedly gunned down by the Anti-Naxal Force sleuths near Shringeri  on the Chikmagalur-Karkala State Highway  during the early hours of April 19, Saturday, after mistaking  the people in the vehicle to be Naxals.

 

The deceased is Kabeer (23), son of one Idinabba hailing from Krishnapura near Suratkal.There were a total of five men in the vehicle which was heading towards Kerala. Sources said that the ANF sleuths who were checking vehicles in the area, opened fire when the vehicle of cattle transporters did not stop as per their directive and tried to zoom forth.

The deceased though resided in Krishnapura hailed from Jokatte.  It is learnt, another person in the vehicle, Farooq from Jokatte was arrested while  three others namely Pramod, the driver, Sarfaraz and Rafeeq from Jokatte escaped.

 

There were 20 cattle in the pick up vehicle. They were transporting the cattle legally to an abattoir in Mangalore. They had purchased the cattle with the help of a broker in Theerthahalli. After reaching Mangalore, Rafeeq visited Mohiuddin Bava, Mangalore North MLA to seek his help. 

Mohiuddin Bava said that there is a need to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. “Shooting at anyone for no fault is a crime. I have spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George to conduct an impartial probe and punish the culprits.”
