The DGP also said that a number of missing persons cases have been registered at various police stations. Women and children are being forced in prostitution, begging, or slavery. More than 1000 missing person cases have been registered. Eighty percent of these missing persons are successfully found; but the other 20 percent remain missing. The DGP said that he has drafted an appeal to the court to introduce an Anti Human Trafficking Cell.

The unit has already been set up under the leadership of DIG Malini; and its aims and objectives are to solve kidnap and missing person cases. The Mohan Kumar case has brought to light several missing person cases. The DGP said that, when the unit comes into force every single missing person case will be taken seriously and investigated till the missing person is found.

He also informed media persons that COD is part of CID. He said that the State Crime Intelligence Bureau will be set up at all district and regional police stations to collect information on a variety of cases.

He said that the term “Love Jihad” was first used by the Kerala-based newspaper “Kerala Kaumudi.” The court has given the police department a deadline of January 18, 2010 to investigate Love Jihad, he said.

Speaking about drug-related crimes, the DGP said that the Narcotics Control Bureau is making use of satellite imagery to monitor the sources of Ganja providers in order to decrease drug-related criminal activities among college students.

The DGP usually visits the SPs of every district to get the latest information on the rising crime rate and to discuss ways and means of curbing it. He said that the western range meeting will be held in Dakshina Kannada. IG Gopal Hosur was present at the press conference.
