Mangaluru, May 14, 2021: Assistant Labour Commissioner of the district has said that the beedi industry has been allowed to function by strictly adhering to Covid guidelines. It may be recalled here that the DK District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary had recently convened a meeting of the beedi manufacturers of Dakshina Kanna and Udupi districts considering the hardships faced by over 4 lakh people in the twin districts who depend on beedi industry for their livelihood and are at a loss owing to the existing lockdown.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner said the Beedi industry can function but should ensure there is no violation of the Covid guidelines.
The Commissioner said the contractors,label workers and other office staff in limited numbers can visit their offices and factories and resume transportation of raw materials.
