Bhagyalakshmi scheme to go ahead : Udupi MLA

Udupi, Oct 24 2019: MLA Raghupathi Bhat blamed Congress for the poor performance of the Bhagyalakshmi scheme introduced by Chief Minister B S  Yediyurappa to ensure a healthy gender ratio across the state in 2006.

“The BJP-led government will go ahead with the scheme to celebrate the birth of girl children,” Bhat said while distributing Bhagyalakshmi bonds to 76 beneficiaries in taluk panchayat.

The scheme has changed society’s attitude to girl children and increased the birth of girl children in below poverty line (BPL) families to some extent, he said.

MLA Bhat said women and child welfare department deposits Rs 19,300 with the LIC in the name of the first beneficiary of the family and Rs 18,350 in the name of the second beneficiary of the same family. After the completion of 18 years, the eldest girl child would receive an amount of Rs 1,00,097 on maturity and the second girl would receive Rs 1,00,052 respectively, he added.

He handed over the work orders to 12 families of Udupi Legislative Assembly constituency who lost their houses in the floods, landslides, to enable them to construct their houses.

He distributed work orders to 16 families whose houses were damaged above 25%. As many as 36 families whose houses were damaged below 25% also received work orders on the occasion. The participation was appreciable.
