Bantwa, Jan 17, 2015 : Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bengaluru unveiled the state of Blessed Saint Joseph Vaz at the Mudipu shrine on January 16, Friday on the culmination day of the three-day long celebrations held at the shrine to mark the canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz by the Pope at Srilanka on January 14. The Archbishop also inaugurated the free meal programme by pouring rice to a pot.
In his address, he said feeding the poor is a good deed and urged the people to follow the ideals of Jesus and also derive inspiration from the noble works of Saint Joseph Vaz.
Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru, Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha Member and former union minister, Fr Gregory D’Souza, Director of Blessed Joseph Vaz Shrine, JR Lobo, MLA, MO Noronha, Advocate and many others were present.
Earlier there was a holy mass which was celebrated by Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bengaluru. In his homily he recalled the contributions and services of Saint Joseph Vaz who is also said to have performed miracles in the Mudipu Hills following which the Hill was known to be Miracle Hills of Mudipu.
A play on Bible named “Suzanna’ directed by Christopher of Neenasam was staged as part of the celebrations.
