DC visits accident zone Nanthur Junction; promises remedial measures

Mangaluru, March 02, 2015: Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim who on March 2, Monday visited the Nanthur Junction which has turned into an accident zone in the recent past, has assured to initiate remedial measures to curb accidents on the route. The DC was accompanied by MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati and other officials.

The visit comes in the wake of a gory road mishap at the junction recently which claimed three lives and left three others injured.

The Deputy Commissioner who inspected the spot, later told reporters  that there was a need to have speed breakers to reduce the speed of vehicles.  While admitting that the rising accidents has been a cause of concern, the DC suggested that the bus stop at Nanthur be shifted 100 meters away. He said the work would be complete by this week end. While stating that it would only be a temporary solution, the DC also informed about a proposal of the NHAI to upgrade Nanthur junction at a cost of Rs 60 crore.

MCC Commissioner who also spoke assured early solution to the problem. She assured steps to erect speed breakers and also to have two lanes on the road.

Uday Nayak, ACP (Traffic) informed that the Nanthur bus stop will be shifted to a location near the Ullas wine store. He also stated that an under pass or a fly over can be a permanent solution to the problem.

Vishnuvardhan, DCP (Crime) and NHAI officials were present on the occasion.
