DK DC calls for details on bank accounts for Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan

Mangalore, Sep 2, 2014 :  At a meeting on the progress of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan scheme here on sepetember 1,  DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has directed the bank officials to submit detailed reports on families who possess bank accounts and those who do not, in Dakshina Kannada district, within a week.  According to information given, There are 4.39 lakh families in the district and 3.77 lakh families possess bank accounts.

The remaining families should have bank accounts in the next two months. The bank officials should work towards making the scheme successful by bringing the benefits of formal banking system to all the account holders.

The DC added that bank accounts should be linked to Aadhaar card number. A total of 8.50 lakh persons have Aadhaar number in the district. A proposal has been submitted to the government to open Aadhaar centres in all the taluks to enrol names of those who do not have Aadhaar card.

The DC called the bank officials to put in place pro-action to open accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan scheme without delay.  The scheme should be implemented effectively and should be successful in the district, he stressed.

Lead Bank Manager Amarnath Hegde, Nabard Manager Prasad, Project director Takat Rao and others were present at the meeting and it was decided to extend every possible assistance to the Jan Dhan scheme.
