In her inaugural address Shakuntala Shetty said that  there is a misconception  in the minds of the people that Krishna had  thousands of wives. But Lord Krishna can be depicted as the protector of girls, she said and added that at the same time people  need to understand Sri Krishna’s positive message to the society.

Expressing her disappointment over the poor turnout for the programme, Shakuntala Shetty  said this reflected the  declining interest of the people towards Indian culture and its tradition.

Additional DC Kumar said that  Sri Krishna Janmashtami is also being celebrated as a government programme since three years. However not many people  attend these programmes, he regretted.

MLA Mohiudeen Bava said that the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi can be depicted as “Krishna Naadu” where people gather in large numbers to celebrate the auspicious day. We need to act according to the teachings of Lord Krishna  who  has spread the message of peace and harmony, Bava said.

ZP CEO Sri Vidya, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President  Pradeep Kalkura and others were present.
