Facebook friend turned husband demands dowry in Mangaluru

Mangaluru 26 Nov 2015: A newlywed bride complained to the police against her facebook friend and his family members for allegedly demanding three lakh rupees as dowry in return to take her home after the dinner party.

Mangalore City Police has booked one Anand devadiga and others under various sections of Dowry prohibition Act and Indian Penal code for demanding dowry and threatening them in dire consequences.

The complainant girl and Anand Devadiga befriended through famous social networking site facebook five years ago and recently they decided to marry. Their marriage took place on 29 October 2015 in a temple in Mangalore. After the marriage a dinner party has been arranged at complainant’s residence on 26 November 2015 and as per local customs bridegroom family take the bride along with them to her husband’s residence soon after the dinner.

In this case, two days prior to the dinner the bridegroom called her to Kadri park and demanded Rs.3 lakh as dowry and otherwise it will not be possible him to take her home after the scheduled dinner party. He also threatened her and her family members in dire consequences if the matter is reported to the police. 

Following this her family lodged a complained to the police and Kavoor police investigating the case.
