Fourth ‘Krishi Yantra Mela’ in Puttur, tomorrow Feb 23

Puttur, Feb 22, 2019: Addressing media on Feb 21,  Thursday, S.R. Satishchandra, president, Campco, said that a three-day ‘Krishi Yantra Mela – 2019’ (farm machinery fair) that will begin in Puttur from Feb 23, Saturday will showcase the application of various machines in agriculture and allied activities.


Krishi-YantraOrganised jointly by the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (Campco), Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Vivekananda Polytechnic and Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (DKMUL), the fair will be conducted on the college premises. This is the fourth edition of the mela.  In addition to showcasing latest technology related to farming, the mela was aimed at attracting youngsters to agriculture.

There will be seminars on backyard farming, value addition in farming, farming as a profession, profitability in dairy farming, and low-cost housing. On Saturday afternoon, four persons who have switched over to farming from other professions will speak.

Satish Rao P., chairman, administrative committee of the college, said about 270 stalls would be put up. Drone sprayers, carbon fibre sprayers, new drip irrigation equipment, and latest machines used in dairy farming will be exhibited and demonstrated.

There will be a model of low-cost house. The model to be exhibited will be a two-bed room house with an area of 600 sq. ft. It has been built using pre-cast materials in six days at a cost of about Rs. 6 lakh. In addition to farm machines, visitors can visit stalls relating to building materials, house construction, automobiles, nurseries, seeds, food, and other commercial materials.

DKMUL will show case a model of low-cost cow shed.

P.P. Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Corporate Affairs, will inaugurate the fair.

Rao said that visitors can visit the chocolate factory of CAMPCO on the occasion. Bus facility would be arranged to visit the factory from the exhibition venue.
