Mangaluru, Aug 10, 2019: The condition of the working class in the nation has turned out to be pathetic since 2014 due to the government policies that have been neglecting the interests of the working class, said senior trade union leader and National General Secretary of AITUC Amarjeet Kaur.
She was speaking after inaugurating the two-day programme organised to commemorate the birth centenary of B V Kakkilaya, a renowned freedom fighter, stalwart of the Karnataka reunification movement, and former member of the Rajya Sabha and Karnataka legislative assembly , at the Bishop Jathanna Auditorium, Sahodaya, Balmatta in the city on August 10, Saturday. The event was jointly organised by Samadarshi Vedike, Mangaluru, Hosathu Monthly, Bengaluru, MS Krishnan Memorial Trust, Bengaluru and Navakarnataka Publications Private limited, Bengaluru.
Pointing out that there were enough laws aimed at protecting the interests of the working class, she said in reality they have not seen effective implementation.
Stating that 95% of the working force of the nation is in the unorganised sector, she said most of the jobs in government and public sector undertakings are on contract basis and a situation has been created wherein these workers do not get even a 1/3rd of the pay which government employees get.
Former president of JNU Students’ Union Kanhaiah Kumar, Organiser Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya were present among others.
