Mangaluru, Jan 27, 2015: It was an event of grandeur as also religious fervour. Thousands of devotees witnessed the annual car festival popularly known as Kodial Theru of the Shree Venkatramana Temple at Carstreet in the city on January 26 evening. If the Small Theru or the Sanna Theru was held on January 25, while the ‘Dodda Theru” was on January 26 wherein the idol of Lord Veera Venkatesha, the presiding deity of the Temple was taken out in a golden palanquin before being placed in the Theru or chariot which was tastefully decorated.
Srimad Samyameendra Theertha Swamiji, the anointed discipline of Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji, the senior seer of the Kashi Mutt Samsthan installed the idol in the chariot. The chariot was pulled by thousands of devotees around Temple Square and Carstreet.
Earlier in the morning various rituals were held in the Temple as a prelude to the Dodda Theru. The idols of the deities were offered Abhisheka including Gangabhisheka, Shatkalashabhisheka and Panchamritha. Later Poornahuti was offered at the Yajna Mantap of the Temple following which the idols were placed in the chariot.
