Mangalore Today News Network

Kundapur, Jan 25, 2015 :  There was disappointment in store for Shivamogga MP and former CM BS Yeddyurappa and his confidante and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje when their efforts to draw  Kundapur’s independent MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty back to the BJP fold went in vain.

The two leaders had come down to Kundapur on January 24, Saturday to meet Halady, a former BJP man who had quit the party and had won as an independent candidate by a record margin  from Kundapur. Sources said Halady has politely turned down the offer to rejoin the BJP.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa who spoke to media men later on, was evidently hiding his disappointment when he said “Halady  cannot compromise on his principles as he has been elected an independent candidate and he has three more years of tenure as MLA.”

Yeddyurappa also exuded confidence when he said the party would win over 150 seats in the next Assembly elections, which he predicted would be held soon.

Halady Srinivas Shetty who too spoke to reporters said he would prefer to continue as an independent MLA as he was chosen to power by people.” My supporters will decide whether I should join any  political party in the future,” he further added.
Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, District BJP Chief, Prakash Mendon, ZP  Vice President,  ZP members Ganapathi Sriyan,  Bhasker Billawa, Taluk Panchayat President and other BJP leaders were present.
