Mangaluru, Dec 01, 2018 : Humanity becomes a mere word when humanitarian values are absent, said renowned actor Prakash Rai.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the inaugural of the fifth edition of Jananudi organised at the Shanti Kiran auditorium at Bajjody here on December 1, Saturday under the aegis of Abhimatha.
"Our religion, our way of living and our culture too is a part of life along with Nudi," he said.
"That Nudi is not Siri but Life is a magnificent truth," he said adding he was against resorting politics in the name of one religion. "Still I am not against any one religion," Rai asserted.
We are silent when a leader from a ruling party openly tells members that the Sabarimala imbroglio is a golden opportunity, Prakash Rai regretted.
Religion does not give us jobs, food or education to our kids, one needs to exercise caution against people who show undue love on one religion and have their way, he added.
Noted writer Vinaya Vakkunda, said freedom of expression was in danger and efforts were underway to silence dissent."We are leading a life where rapes, assaults and atrocities have become the order of the day," she said.
Earlier, inaugurating the convention, retired judge H N Nagamohana Das
cautioned against some unconstitutional elements which were trying to impose their own culture on the people by conspiring to destroy pluralism. "To see those at the helm of administration supporting this is dangerous," he added.
Dr Haseena Khadri, M Devadas, Dalit leader and others also addressed the gathering.
