The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Council of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has extended its complete support to the  indefinite strike by the KSRTC employees. In a press release, AITUC maintained that the salary drawn by KSRTC employees is the least among all other state government employees.

The CPI Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Committee has also extended it support the strike and condemned the government for taking a unilateral decision about the salary of the employees.

The Mangalore University has postponed the BEd examinations scheduled  to be held on July 25 to 27 in the wake of the proposed indefinite strike by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees and declaration of a two-day holiday for schools and colleges. Mangalore University Registrar Evaluation Prof A M Khan has said in a media release.
However, there will be no holiday for schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada. The schools will function as usual, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said.  In a press release, he said though the state government has declared a two-day holiday, the schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada are unlikely to be affected by the protest. “As people depend on private buses and private vehicles, the protest by KSRTC employees may not affect Dakshina Kannada district. A majority of schoolchildren depend on private buses and vehicles to commute. The schools will function as usual.”

It is noted that several groups in DK have circulated opinions that  since KSRTC caters to the rural areas in transport educational instututions  must consider the matter and declare holidays.

Cancellation of tickets  Several passengers have cancelled their tickets since talks have failed between the government and the KSRTC employees. Many people approached the ticket counters in KSRTC Bus Station and agents to cancel their tickets on Sunday July24.
