Karkala, Dec 22, 2014: Preparations are in full swing for the Mahamastakabhisheka of the monolithic statue of Bhagavan Bahubali at Karkala to be held from January 21 to 31. The construction works of the Attalige (step ladder) on three sides of the statue were complete on December 21, Sunday.
The statue of Bahubali is 42 feet tall and the Attalige that has been constructed is 50 feet tall and has has five floors, each floor having a capacity to accommodate 100 persons. In all the Attalige can accommodate 500 persons.
This is for the first time an iron made Attalige has been constructed as against the past when wooden Attaliges were constructed. The organising committee has spent 50 tonnes of iron for the Attalige and the construction has costed around Rs 50 lakhs.
Mahaveera Prasad, who is in-charge of the construction of the Attalige has informed that the construction of the Attalige took two months.
