Bengaluru, Jan 23, 2019: Sri Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga mutt was laid to rest on Tuesday at the Rudrakash Mantap in the Siddaganga mutt premises where he carried out his philanthropic activities for over eight-decades with full state honours.
The mortal remains of the 111-year-old seer, who passed away on Monday around 11.44am, were taken out in a procession and placed in the Gadduge (resting place).
Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda represented the Centre at the funeral rites of the seer in the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A wreath was placed by him on behalf of Modi. State leaders from various political parties and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev were among others who paid their last respects on Tuesday.
The final rites of the seer were conducted according to Veerashaiva-Lingayat traditions by a host of seers. The preparation for last rites of the Siddaganga seer started around 5.30am on Tuesday with puja to the mantap and went on till late night before he was buried.
Lakhs of people reached Siddaganga mutt to pay their respects to the noble soul known for his selfless service to society. This included followers, former and present students of various educational institutions run by the mutt, devotees and filmstars.
