Mangalore, Oct 21, 2014: The continued protests by Hindu outfits including the VHP and the Bhajrangdal demanding the suspension of Kavoor SI for allegedly assaulting a Bhajrangdal activist named Charan, has finally yielded result.
Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra has now suspended the Kavoor SI Umesh Kumar in connection with the case. However, the Commissioner has made it clear that the suspension has been made on the basis of the report submitted by DCP Vishnuvardhan who was investigating the case.
It may be mentioned here that the Hindu organisations had resorted to various means of protest outside the Kavoor Police Station since the past few days demanding action against the SI who however had gone on leave. Even senior BJP leader and former chief minister had recently visited the police station and had met the DCP over the issue.
The protest backed by several BJP leaders too was later withdrawn after the Commissioner assured action against the SI once the investigation report was submitted.
