Mangalore, May 18 : Well-known Konkani personalities namely Paul Moraes, Krishna Bhavani Shanker Bhat and Argodu K Govindaraya Shenoy who have made significant contributions to Konkani literature, art and folk fields respectively will be conferred the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy’s Honorary Awards for the year 2012-13 at a function to be held at the  Dr Rajendraprasad Convention Hall, Gibs High School, Kumta on May 25.The Annual Book Awards and Yuva Puraskar will also be conferred on the occasion.

This was informed to reporters here by Kasargod Chinna, President of the Academy. The Awards will be presented  by  K R Ramakrishna, Commissioner of Kannada and Culture Department. Ananth Kumar Hegde, MP will present the Book Awards, while the Yuva Puraskar will be presented by Muralidahr Prabhu.

The Academy Book Awards will be conferred on Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto for his  research book ‘Karavali Karnatakanthlya Konkani Catholikancho Ithihas’ (The History of Konkani Catholics in Coastal Karnataka), Tara Laveena Fernandes for the short story collection ‘Daskath Ani Her Katha’, and Aruna Rao Kundaje for Konkani poetry collection `Sakshatkar’. The Yuva Puraskar-2012 will be conferred on  Ankush N Nayak (music), Vianni Antony D’Cunha, talented chess player,  Ramakrishna Nayak V (painting) and Narayan Bhagvan Raikar, Ankola, who secured 84% in SSLC exam  despite despite being vision impaired. He is also an outstanding musician.  .

 Academy Registrar Devdas Pai, members Rajaram Nayak and Ashok Shet were present at the press meet.
