Man brutally hacked to death in Herga, accused absconding

Udupi, April 19, 2014 : A 65 year old man was brutally hacked to death, reported by a distant relative and his accomplices at Murathakadi in Herga village near Parkala on the morning of April 18, Friday.

 

 

 

The deceased is Sridhar Shetty (65). The accused have been identified as Prashanth Shetty, a sand miner and a distant relative of the deceased and Gunaker Shetty and Ashok Shetty. The names of the three have been mentioned in the complaint lodged by Leelavathi Shedti, the wife of the deceased.


  The sand mined from Swarna river at Murathakadi  since the past 25 years used to be transported  through the land owned by Sridhar Shetty. It is learnt,  there was a dispute between Prashanth Shettywho used to undertake sand mining and Sridhar Shetty over  payment of money for using the private  land for sand transportation.

It is learnt Sridhar who used to stay in his wife’s house at Balkatta had come to his old house at Murathakadi on Friday when he was hacked to death.

Leelavathi told the police that on receiving information that her husband was attacked, she had rushed to Murathakadi along with her daughter Jyothi when Sridhar Shetty was found critically injured. She said her husband revealed the name of Prashanth Shetty and later passed away half an hour later.

The accused are said to be absconding, Manipal police have launched a search for them.
