Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2018: Education and technology while contributing to individual as well as societal development, should also contribute to the progress of the nation, said Prof. Subra Suresh, Padmashree Awardee and President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
He was delivering the 36th Convocation address of the Mangalore University held at the Mangala Auditorium of the University on February 26, Monday. Prof Suresh said there was need to strike a balanced development between technology and humanism at a time when the nation was undergoing a fourth industrial revolution. The three earlier industrial revolutions while creating ample employment opportunities have also snatched the livelihood of many. Caution must be exercised to ensure the industrial revolution does not cause negative impact on the society, he said.
Dr K Bhyrappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University presided over the function.
Dr Subra Naresh was conferred honorary doctorate on the occasion. The University conferred doctorate degrees to 97 candidates, while 45 received gold medals in various disciplines.
Registrar A M Khan, Heads of different departments, Academic Council and Syndicate Members were present .
