Mangaluru, Mar 30, 2015:  The city is getting ready to host the 19th Federation Cup or National Senior Athletics Championship 2015 at Mangala Stadium for five days from April 30. Karnataka is hosting it for the first time and more than 700 athletes will take part in it.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil the logo of the Federation Cup in Bengaluru on March 30, according to the Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries K. Abhayachandra Jain, who also reviewed the preparations of the meet here on Sunday.

Mr. Jain said that the meet would be the gateway for Indian athletes to many international athletics meets. The best athletes from the country would compete for 47 gold medals here. Olympians, Asian Games medallists, national record holders would take part in the meet to constitute Indian athletics team to participate in international meets. The team would represent the country at the Asian Athletics Championship in Wuhan, China, the World Athletics Championship at Beijing, and Rio Olympics in 2016.

The Minister said that the meet would cost about Rs. 3 crore of which his department has sought Rs. 2 crore from the State government. The balance amount would be raised through donations. Banks and other institutions would be approached for funds, he said.

The meeting discussed about security issues, hotel accommodation, travel facility for athletes and coaches, arrangements for media and about other facilities required at the stadium. C.K. Valson, secretary, Athletics Federation of India, told the meeting about the basic facilities required to conduct the meet.

Referring to security issues, Sharanappa S.D., Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, said that a police helpdesk would be set up near the stadium to deal with any security issues. Anti-sabotage checking would be carried out and police in civil dress would monitor security.

Mr. Valson said that tight security was needed near the doping centre, media centre and rest room for athletes.

An office-bearer of the organising committee said that 15 committees have been constituted to conduct the meet.
