Mangalore, Sep 22, 2014: The Muslim Central Committee has demanded an end to the moral policing incidents in the district. Speaking to reporters here on September 22, Monday, KS Mohammad Masood, President of the Committee strongly criticised the attempts to disrupt peace in the district in the name of moral policing incidents in the recent past.
He urged for stern steps to put an end to the same and sought measures for peace and harmony in the district in the wake of the forthcoming Bakrid and Dasara celebrations.
Condemning a recent moral policing incident wherein Bhajrangdal men allegedly assaulted six Muslim boys, Masood said the Muslim Central Committee since its inception in 1968 has been striving hard to maintain harmony in the society.
He also touched upon the issue of taking law into hands on the pretext of curbing cattle trafficking and regretted the fact that such incidents had not stopped even after the Congress government took charge in the state.
To a question if incidents of communal tension have increased during the Congress rule, Masood was quick to say that it has come down by 50 percent. Masood was further critical of a recent incident in the Mangalore International Airport wherein a passenger was detained for being in
possession of ‘suspicious’ products only to be later declared
innocent.
The Muslim Central Committee leader was also all praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his statement in an interview to CNN, commending the patriotism of Indian Muslims. Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim President of District Congress and Ashraf, former mayor were present among others at the press meet.
