Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2014: State Minister for Forests, Ecology and DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai has said that all out efforts would be made to conserve Kambala, the traditional sport of undivided DK district.

Speaking to reporters here on November 22, Saturday,the minister said State law Minister TB Jayachandra who is also the President of the State Animal Welfare Board will be writing a letter to Animal Welfare Board of India  urging not to ban Kambala. If the problem is still not solved,  then  a legal recourse will be taken. The matter would also be discussed with Kambala Committee, the minister informed.

The Animal Welfare Board of India has sought a ban on Kambala as per the PCA Act 3 of 1960 and added as per the Act every individual must care for animals and should  not unnecessarily hurt  animals or make them struggle. The Kambala Committee organisers have taken measures to ensure that the buffaloes used in Kambala are not  hurt  unnecessarily, the minister said.

Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Vijay Kumar Shetty, former MLA Shashidhar Hegde, former Mayor, Praveenchandra Alva, Idinabba and others were present.
