Mangalore, April 21, 2013: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has regretted the fact that talented Brahmins were losing on opportunities because of reservation.
Participating in the Brahmana Jagrithi Sammelan organised by the Brahmins Federation at Sanghaniketan on April 21, Sunday, the seer said it was wrong on the part of some intellectuals to attribute all evils in the society to Brahmins. Clarifying that untouchability was not a contribution of Brahmins, the seer asserted that caste system and untouchability existed long before the Brahmins came into the picture.
He also stressed on the fact that Brahmins were united despite the several groups like Havyaka,Shivalli, Kota, Sthanika, Koteshwara, Chitpavan and Deshastha.
The seer further said the Brahmins had the responsibility for the welfare of the Hindu community in particular and humanity in general.
Dr. P Sadananda Mayya, Proprietor, Mayya’s Beverages and Foods Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, presided over the function. Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, junior pontiff of Pejawar Mutt and Jitakamananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangalore, were also present.
