Mangaluru, Dec 19, 2014: Union Minister for Railways Suresh Babu is learnt to have assured to merge the Mangaluru-Thokur section of the Railways with Konkan Railway within a week.
The Minister gave the above assurance to a delegation led by BJP leader and Shivamogga MP BS Yeddyurappa which met him at New Delhi recently. The delegation brought to the notice of the minister the advantages of making the Mangaluru-Thokur section which is presently under Southern Railway, a part of Konkan Railways.
It is believed that the merger if takes place would pave the formation of a separate Mangaluru Railway Division.
It may be recalled here that a writ filed in the High Court by Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike President Hanumanth Kamath and Rajeev Gaonkar, Vice President of Paschima Karavali Railway Yatrikara Abhivruddhi Samiti had been dismissed with the court asking the petitioners to place forth demand with the Railway Ministry.
The delegation led by BSY also included Rajeev Gaonkar and Venkatesh, President of Mookambika Railway Yatri Sangha, Byndoor.
