Mangaluru : On May 22, 2015: DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim sated that the Shiradi Ghat on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway closed for traffic for the past five months for upgrading will not be opened for traffic from June, this reality is to be kept in mind as per circumstances prevailing.
DC Ibrahim said that with the work of concreting 13 km stretch of the Shiradi Ghat section still incomplete, buses and other vehicles bound to Bengaluru will continue to ply on the Charmadi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat. The Shiradi Ghat – the main link between coastal Karnataka and the hinterland – will not be open to traffic during monsoon as assured earlier.
At a meeting called to review the preparedness of the district administration to face monsoon, he said so far 50 per cent of the 13-km stretch has been completed.
Later DC Ibrahim informed that the Charmadi Ghat has been well maintained and measures have been taken to strengthen the road at various points.
The restriction on movement of sand lorries and other heavy vehicles on Charmadi Ghat will continue, he added. Meanwhile, an official from the Karnataka Road Development Corporation said that the work of widening the Mani-Sampaje road stretch has been completed. The official said the work had started in 2010.
