Mangaluru, Feb 16, 2019: Users of private vehicles, with KA 19 (Mangaluru) registraion plate, will have to pay the toll to cross the NITK toll plaza at Surathkal between Mangaluru and Udupi from March 1.
They were hitherto exempted from paying the toll (Rs. 50 one way) hitherto following some understanding between the local administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Sources in NHAI told The Hindu that the contractor, who has to pay a higher licence fee to NHAI, appears to have decided to collect toll from local vehicles too.
The decision has drawn severe criticism from road users of Mangaluru.
