Udupi : Family blames medical negligence for death of baby in womb

Udupi, Nov 28, 2015 : Family members and relatives of a pregnant woman whose baby died while in the womb itself on November 28, Saturday morning at the Government Hospital for Women and Children, gathered at the hospital premises and alleged that the negligence of the hospital authorities had led to the death of the baby.

It is gathered that Sumathi (30), wife of Ramesh from Palli who was regularly visiting the hospital for check-up for the past sevenths was admitted to the hospital on November 27, Friday. It is said earlier in the day she was made to wait right till evening until she was admitted and given a bed in a passage in the overcrowded hospital.

That the baby had died in the womb was known only on Saturday after Sumathi underwent a scanning. As soon as this news reached her family, they started accusing the hospital authorities of negligence.

The family of Sumathi though wanted to lodge a police complaint, they were asked to complain with the Health Department and District Surgeon.
