Udupi: July 31, 2015: Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal said that a Rs. 22-lakh action plan had been prepared for sprucing up the Ambedkar Bhavan here.
He was speaking at the district-level Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes redressal meeting.
Dr. Vishal said that legal action had been taken against the illegal structures around the bhavan. All steps would be taken for the development of the bhavan. Any additional funds needed for its upkeep would be provided.
Replying to a query, Dr. Vishal said that there was still scope for four beneficiaries from the Scheduled Castes and two beneficiaries from Scheduled Tribes to take advantage of the provision to get tourist taxis at subsidised rates.
If any beneficiary wanted training in driving, it could be made available, he said.
When Dalit leaders Jayan Malpe and Shyamraj Birti raised the issue of lack of space for their taxis at taxi stands, Dr. Vishal directed the Regional Transport Officer and Commissioner of Udupi City Municipal Council to take action and submit a report to him.
When Dalit leaders objected to the illegal sale of liquor and wine shops staying open beyond permissible time, Dr. Vishal directed officials of the Police and Excise departments to inspect these matters and take action.
