Udupi, May 28, 2015 : Udipi district is in high poll gear for the gram panchayats to be held in 837 polling booths across the district on May 29.  There are  6,97,523 voters in the district, of which 3, 65, 042 are men and 3,32,186 are women. 25 are transgender.


Panchayat pollThe voters list being considered follows the enrolment till May 18. In Udupi taluk, there are 3,11,380 voters, of which 1,47,950 are men and 1,63,422 are women and eight transgender. In Karkala, there are 1,40,018 voters, of which 66,360 are men and 73,658 are women.


In Kundapur, there are 245855 voters, of which 117876 are men and 127962 are women and 17 are transgender. Of the total 837 polling booths set up for the purpose, there are 374 polling booths in Udupi, 291 polling stations in Kundapur and 172 polling stations in Karkala.

There is no provision to provide voters slip and voters can use either voters identity card or any one of the 22 documents approved by the government which includes ration cards, pass port, driving license among others.

There are 300 service voters in the district. There is no provision for NOTA - ’None of the Above’ in the ballot papers. Elaborate security arrangements are made in all the polling booths set up at hyper sensitive areas, which includes Maoist affected areas and sensitive areas.


The weekly markets are banned on the day. The randomization of the polling boxes would be held on May 28.


The candidates in as many as 70 polling stations are elected unopposed, which includes 20 in Udupi, 36 in Kundapur 14 in Karkala respectively. The mustering and de-mustering centers in the district include St. Cecily’s School,Bhandarkars Arts and Science College, Jaycee English Medium High School in Karkala.
