Mangaluru, Jul 07, 2021: “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need. Indian soil represent an exquisite nature at its best. There is no lack of resource in India. Take it as a challenge to conserve nature during your student life itself. Avoid Plastics and leave behind a Green world for the next generation of mankind so also to the birds and animals” said Sri Madhava Ullal, green activist addressing the students and the faculty of Shakthi on the occasion of Vanamahotsava.

His field work as a pygmy collector exposed him to the extreme hot sun and it was at that time he realised he ought to do something to keep the earth cool. When he decided to plant saplings, the question of nurturing and nourishing came as a big challenge. It even brought in a lot of criticism but that promoted more of his activity and not hinder in any way. He said he selected places like graveyard,church,  temple, mosque, school and nagabana to plant saplings because people usually do not fell trees around these places.
         
“Youth of today need to plant one tree every year and get inspired to do more. He assured to assist planting of Kadamba sapling in whatever number we choose and wherever the child wants. Kadamba whose botanical name is Neolamarckia cadamba is an ornamental tree that has medicinal properties too. He also suggested to plant ‘Pride of India’, grow a vegetable garden in every house and appreciated the organic kitchen garden at Shakthi. Trekking under the able guidance of Sri Dinesh Holla would expose children to the diversity in life” he concluded.

Sanjith Naik, Secretary of Shakthi Education Trust expressing his happiness over the 33 years of Madhava Ullal’s experience of planting trees said” One man’s effort has created the positive impact on the environment that is tremendous. Even if you do 10% of his work as students you can change this environment. It takes 3 to 4 years for a plant to grow into a tree, so think many times before felling a tree. At least one tree planted by every student in a year can make a change in this environment” he suggested.

Dr.K.C.Naik, the Administrator, Ramesh K, the Chief Advisor, Prakyath Rai, Institute Development Officer, Prof. T. Rajaram Rao, Principal of Shakthi PU College, Vidya Kamath G, Principal Shakthi Residential School, Neema Saxena, Co-ordinator of Shakthi Pre-School along with teaching fraternity, students and parents connected virtually.

The programme began with the Saraswathi Vandana by all staff. An Environment song to create an awareness on conservation of nature composed by Sharanappa, Kannada Teacher was sung. Sangeetha Marina, English teacher introduced the guest. Bhavya V, Science teacher compered the show.
