Mangalore, Sep 18: Prerana, a social service trust started by Infosys employees, organized Prathiba Poshak 2011 to distribute scholarships among merit students so that they can go in for higher education.
The scholarship distribution was held in the premises of Infosys today under the banners of Prerana of Infosys Mangalore, Vidya Poshak of Dharwad, Yakshagana Kalaranga of Udupi, Dhrithi Foundation of Mangalore, and Bevinje Shridhara Kakkilaya Foundation of Kasargod. Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, was the chief guest of the event.
Scholarships worth Rs. 18,50,294 were distributed among 510 merit students of Udupi, DK, Uttara Kannada, and Kasargod. Prerana contributed Rs. 15,71,704 and the rest of the scholarship funds were contributed by the other charitable organizations.
Kuldeep Kulkarni of Vidya Poshak provided information regarding Prathibha Poshak. Karthik Hegde of Vidya Poshak administered the oath to all the students receiving scholarships.
Expressing his appreciation for the various organizations providing scholarships to needy, but bright students, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh urged the students to make the best use of facilities given to them.
An interactive session conducted by Bhaskar Chickananjundappa of iPoint Consulting formed part of the event.
The above-mentioned organizations have been distributing scholarships to bright, but needy students from the past 5 years.
