Managalore, Dec 14, 2011: Pratap Reddy, the new inspector general of police (IGP) for Western Range, took over from the previous IGP Alok Mohan on Dec 14 Wednesday. Mr. Reddy was previously the IGP in fire services. He hails from Guntur in AP.

IGP Reddy told reporters that he was happy to get the opportunity to serve coastal Karnataka once again, adding that he had previously been posted in Karkala. Stating that his primary duty will be to maintain peace, law, and order, he said that he will be a friend, guide, and philosopher to the police department.

He also spoke of his intention to computerize the police department and tackle Naxals, underworld elements, and terrorists with information technology (IT).

He urged the public to report crimes whenever possible so that all criminal elements could be dealt with sternly and crime rate could be reduced.

Regarding Naxal threats, he said that the local intelligence team, the local police stations, and the Anti Naxal Force (ANF) are doing everything in their power.

He requested the media, public representatives, and the administration to support him and cooperate with him so that he can work for the welfare of the public in a better manner.

Previous IGP Alok Mohan handed over the responsibilities of the post to Prathap Reddy in the presence of Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and others
