Mangalore, June 4, 2012: The final rites of B. V. Kakkilaya, freedom fighter and CPI leader, were held on June 4, Monday. A huge crowd of political leaders, followers, well-wishers, party workers, and others were present.
The mortal remains of Mr. Kakkilaya were taken by ambulance at 3:00 p.m. and kept in the CPI office at Hoige Bazar so that members of the public could pay their final respects. Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly, was present on behalf of the state government.
Ramanath Rai, K. R. Shriyan of CPI (M), CPI State Secretary K. C. Sathish Chandran, Janardhan Poojary, advocate Asha Nayak, rationalist Narendra Nayak, Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of the Kannada Sahitya Academy, Congress leader Ivan D’Souza, BJP leader Franklin Monteiro, and many others were also present.
The CPI flag was draped around the mortal remains of Mr. Kakkilaya and the body was taken to Nandigudda at 4:00 p.m. for cremation.
