Mangalore, July 30, 2014:  At a press conference July 29,  Bolooru Dogra Poojari Memorial Yakshagana Centre Working President B Damodar Nisarga said the 34th Bolooru Dogra Poojari Memorial award will be conferred on renowned Yakshagana Bhagavat Padyana Ganapati Bhat, at Town Hall in Mangalore, on July 31, at 7 pm.

 Mangalore University Kannada Department Head Dr K Chinnappa Gowda will preside over the function. University Deputy Registrar Prabhakara Neerumarga and Harikatha Parishat President K Mahabala Shetty will be the chief guests.


Yakshagana teacher Sri Govinda Bhat would speak about the recipient. ‘Shivabhaktha Veeramani’ Yakshagana Talamaddale would follow the formal function, he said.   Centre Honourary President Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar said that Bolooru Dogra Poojari was a rare and unique artiste who tried to introduce folk life in Yakshagana.

The value of the award which is named after him will be increased by conferring it on Padyana Ganapati Bhat, who has dedicated his life to Yakshagana, he said. The award will contain Rs 10,000 of cash with a citation.

Meanwhile, Damodar Nisarga said that the Centre is planning to conduct a Yakshagana weekly- ‘Sampoorna KotiChennaiah’, with complete story of Koti-Chennaiah.  In the seven-day event, along with three hours of Yakshagana, there will be seminars and interaction programmes.
