Another Returnee recount Yemen strife and the bad times

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 16, 2015: Shahid returned to his home town Udupi from Yemen last week. He says bombs, gun reports and eerie sounds were the order of things for those in Yemen for the last few years. However, the situation had worsened terribly this March 2015.  Shahid, was working in Sana’a, Capital of strife- torn Yemen.

He told media that he had even worked as volunteer at Indian Embassy helping officials in sending Indians back during the last few weeks. The handling of more than 10,000 people was a tough job. They had asked Indians to help as volunteers. He said that he worked in a Logistics firm as Branch Manager, for the last four years. He was earlier in Saudi Arabia with the same firm and was sent to Sana’a, Yemen. People in Yemen are adjusted to the war situation. The air attacks were not on human habitations. It was mostly on place where arms and ammunitions are stored.

He went on to state that in Sana’a, the situation was not like in Aden. The sound of gunshots and explosions were heard throughout the night. In fact, during air strike, the entire building used to shake. As the airport was closed and no flights could land, the situation had become tense in Sana’a. However, the Indian government and the Indian Embassy did a commendable job in evacuating stranded persons. Stating that his family, including his wife and son had left for India just two days prior to the strife in Yemen.

Shahid said that here are a few more Indians in strifetorn Yemen and have refused to come back fearing financial insecurity. I have job security. I will return to some other Gulf country within a few days, to work in the same firm. The Logistics firm shut down its commercial operations in Yemen. After the situation becomes normal, I will go to Yemen to clear the pending matters. Owner of the Logistics firm, Abdul Sameer hails from Bajpe. He was a;ways in touch and concerned about our welfare.
