Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru : In joint media releases June 2,  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have alleged that the Department of Health and Family Welfare has failed to control  communicable diseases, especially dengue, in Dakshina Kannada.

The parties strongly demanded immediate steps to stem the spread of the diseases.

K. Jayarama Shetty, spokesperson, Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP, said that disturbance  in weather condition, with intermittent rain, has resulted in the spread of communicable diseases. The government should immediately take steps to create awareness to prevent the spread of the disease.   He said that Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader has remained ignorant when diseases were spreading in his own areas.

V. Kukyan, district secretary, CPI, said that the number of patients attacked by communicable diseases was increasing in both government and private hospitals.  He demanded that the government should take action against Health Department officials who have been misleading regarding the spread of the diseases.

The CPI demanded that able officers should be appointed to tackle the situation urgently.

He said that a retired officer has been appointed as Health Officer of Mangaluru City Corporation. Malaria and dengue cases have not been controlled in the city. The government should appoint an able in-service doctor to the post and matters need care.
