Borewell rescue equipment developed at SMVITM

Udupi, June 26, 2016: To find a solution to the problem, SMVITM, Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management students have developed a mechanism to rescue a baby trapped inside a borewell. Bantakal Harish R Nadagoud, Ranjith R Prabhu, Vikyath Joshi and Suraj Bangera, all final year mechanical engineering students of  SMVITM, have developed a device to rescue a child trapped inside a borewell.

The project the guidance of Kishor Kumar Aroor, assistant professor of mechanical engineering. With drought looming large every summer, the only hope for farmers is to sink borewells. "The device can reach deep and it can grip the fallen child without hurting him or her. It has battery operated links and a gripper with a cushion, to hold the baby firmly and lifting it without causing injuries. A camera is provided with USB cable which can be directly connected to a laptop. It also has LED bulbs for better vision in the dark and an oxygen supply pipe," explained Nadagoud .
