CCIM president Vanitha Murali Kumar proposes bridge course for ISM grads

Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2014: A bridge course in Allopathy for graduates of Indian System Medicine (ISM) will be introduced in the nation, if a proposal submitted by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) gets central government’s nod.

CCIM president Vanitha Murali Kumar said that the council has sent a proposal to introduce a nine-month bridge course for ISM graduates, who are interested in joining the rural health mission of the government. Dr Vanitha was in the city to take part at the Ayush Utsav 2014, two-day state-level convention of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) that commenced on Saturday.

She said that the nine-month bridge course format has been prepared for ISM graduates. "This bridge course is not intended for private practice, but it is only for rural health service of the government. The course is for those ISM graduates, who want to join rural service, where the government faces shortage of doctors to the tune of 62%. The proposal has been sent to the central government, which is also in favour of rural service sector," she said adding that the nation has over 4 lakh ISM practitioners.The Govt. should also consider the plight of other well equipped doctors facing a serious problem.
