Canara institutions spread the peace flame

Mangaluru, July 25, 2016: The city’s famous Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa, has taken up a unique programme ’Hope for Peace@Canara’ to spread the message of peace around the world. The school received the peace flame from the World Peace Flame Monument situated in Wales, United Kingdom in January, has now decided to share it with other Canara Schools symbolically.

The teachers from Bamford Primary School, Rochdale, Manchester had brought the peace flame when they had visited the school. Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa, had then taken the oath to be the ambassadors of peace. It is the first school in the city to receive the flame from World Peace Flame Movement. 

This programme organized by the Canara High School Association is a precursor to the World Peace Day, which will be celebrated on September 21. Lalana J Shenoy, principal of Canara HPS, Urva briefed the gathering about the activities planned under the programme for this year.

The flame was lighted at various Canara institutions and the students took the responsibility of being peace ambassadors of Canara. The students also presented a peace dance after the prayer and Parnika Bhat, school captain welcomed the gathering. Spoorthi Sunil spoke about the significance of the peace flame. All the Canara institutions received peace flame from the president S S Kamath, and Annappa Pai, vice-president of CHS Association. Ranganath Bhat, secretary administered the peace oath.

The World Peace Flame has been burning since July 1999, when seven flames, lit by eminent peacemakers on five continents, were flown by military/commercial aircraft to the UK. On July 31, they were brought together and united into one flame in North Wales. It has now been lit in every country of the world.
