Drive on ’rashness by private buses’ in Udupi

Udupi, Feb 02, 2016:  District police here are set to launch a special drive to check rash and negligent driving by drivers of private buses in Udupi district from Feb 3, today.

Udupi SP Dr K. Annamalai, told media that some drivers of private buses were driving in a rash and negligent manner. This resulted not only in accidents but also in loss of life and injuries.

To prevent this, the police would undertake a special drive during the peak hours in the mornings and evenings to track down private buses which were being driven in a reckless and negligent manner.

The drive would be undertaken at vital locations and in the border areas of the district on the Udupi-Mangaluru route, Udupi-Kundapur route and Udupi-Karkala route.

“The erring drivers will be fines and issued notices. If they continue driving negligently the second time, we will seize the bus,”  SP Annamalai said.  He said that the drive was bound to inconvenience passengers who were going to Udupi or Mangaluru for their  work and busines, as it is being taken up during peak hours.

“But we have no other alternative but to take up these measures to control errant driving and drivers and ensure security. We urge the passengers to cooperate with us as it is being done for their own safety,”
