Eight arrested on assault charge

Mangaluru, Mar 30, 2015 : A group of 20 persons allegedly assaulted a Class 9 student for speaking to his classmate, who belonged to a different community, in Mulky on Sunday. The police arrested eight of the accused on Sunday.

According to the Mulky police, Manjunath (14), a student of CSI School in Mulky, was reportedly speaking to his classmate on a public ground near the school. Some persons came in an autorickshaw and allegedly assaulted Manjunath. He was allegedly pushed into the auto and taken near a dargah where 15 more persons beat him.

On a complaint, the Mulky police arrested Abdul Aziz (23), Tausif (28), Sharief (43), Safan (19), Mohammed Ali (28), Shakir (24), Mustafa (26) and Jamaluddin (20). They were produced before the II Additional District and Sessions Judge at his residence. The judge ordered that the accused be brought to court on Monday, the police said.
