Environment care NGO protests shifting DK DC offices

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 20, 2015 :  Interacting with the media on May 19, Tuesday, NGO representative Danial Tauro said that the existing DC office is a convenient location and there are reasons for which it should not be shifted to Padil. Members of  NECF _ National Environment Care Foundation, a Mangaluru-based NGO  opposed the move of the government to shift the DC’s office from its present location to Padil on the out skirts and claimed that the decision was one sided and had a self interest.

Moreover, the place where the existing historical office is situated has six acres of land. The decision to shift the DC office has not been taken and endorsed by  competent authority. As a forest minister, the district in-charge minister has no right to take decision on the shifting of the office, as it comes under the jurisdiction of the Revenue Minister. Though the cabinet has approved the shifting, the decision was not taken by the competent authority and the RTC of the land at Padil was tampered with in advance, even before the decision was passed and a rat is smelled.

The shifting of the DC’s office to far off Padil would cause more inconvenience to the people coming from faraway places like Puttur, to have their work done at the DC’s office.

Moreover, the land at Padil has 478 trees and supports rare animals and birds. The land qualifies to be a deemed forest. The construction of DC’s office at the place will lead to the destruction of the trees. At least, the trees in the government land should be protected.  Danial further said that the existing office was built in 1994 that is only 25 years ago, and to build another office, would be the waste of public money.

A case has also been filed in the court in this regard, he added.  Members Raghav, Kateel Dinesh Pai, Dinesh Holla and Shashidhar Shetty were part of the protest group along with many members of the public.
